Melinda R. Escamilla of Lander (1990-2011)

Funeral services for Melinda R. Escamilla were Tuesday morning, Nov. 15, at Blue Sky Hall at Ethete with Episcopal clergy officiating. Interment follows at St. Michael’s Mission at Ethete.

An evening service and wake were Monday evening at Blue Sky Hall.

Miss Escamilla died in a two-vehicle traffic accident south of Lander on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011. She was a passenger in a vehicle en route to Salt Lake City for a doctor’s appointment.

Melinda Rose Escamilla was born in Salt Lake City on Nov. 18, 1990, the daughter of Johanne Boyd and Ismael Escamilla, Sr.

She grew up in Salt Lake City and recently moved to Lander from Casper. She graduated from Pathfinder High School in Lander.

She started working at the Life Residence Center when she was age 16 and has held various jobs on the healthcare field. At the time of her death, she was starting employment with the Wind River Casino.

Her family said she enjoyed traveling, camping, visiting with her family and friends, and mothering her one-year-old daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Keria Colleen Lopez; brother, Ismael Escamilla, Jr.; sister, Christy Rae Wanstall; mother, Johanne Boyd of Lander; father, Ismael Escamilla, Sr. of Salt Lake City; grandmother, Fern Felter of Lander; grandfather Jonathan Boyd, Sr. of Poplar, Mont.; uncles, George Goggles of Riverton, Jonathan Boyd, Jr. of Lander, and Angelo Boyd of Poplar, Mont.; aunts, Valerie Boyd and Evelyn Jimenez of Riverton; other grandparents include Sharon Gambler, Blossom Felter, Rubena Hernandez, and Roberta Spoonhunter of Ethete, Mary Martinez of Las Vegas, Nevada, Wayne and Sherwin Felter of Ethete, and Ernest Felter, Sr. of Lander; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Evelyn Walks on the Mountain (Brown) Felter and Alvin Felter, Sr.

Services are by Wind Dancer Funeral Home of Fort Washakie.
